Bigger than a supermarket: Ryder Cup’s giant merch tent lands at Bethpage

|

It’s a pop-up tent like no other. At more than 61,000 square feet, the Ryder Cup merchandise shop at Bethpage Black feels more like a golf-themed superstore.

Set up by the main spectator entrance and exit, the massive shop features over 1,500 different items — from polos and pullovers to posters and pins.

“There is something for everyone, I promise you that,” Legends Global Merchandise CCO Mike Quirk told Greater Long Island. “We plan for every person who’s coming to the Ryder Cup to come through our doors, so there’s plenty to choose from.”

To put it in perspective, the tent is larger than the average King Kullen on Long Island. It’s the biggest temporary display of apparel and memorabilia ever built for a PGA event — and believed to be one of the largest at any sporting event, anywhere.

“We embrace the challenge,” said Quirk. “It’s not just about finding the item you are looking for. It’s also about the process and the experience. We know customers don’t want to spend too long inside — they want to get back and enjoy the golf. We’ve checked all the boxes.”

Shoppers can even buy now and pick up later before leaving, or ship their purchases home via UPS.

The shop will also be open to the public before the tournament, from Friday, Sept. 19, through Monday, Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 23, access will be limited to Ryder Cup ticket holders.

“The size of this, I didn’t think I’d ever see anything like it,” Quirk said. “This isn’t just the Ryder Cup. This is the Ryder Cup in New York.”
