Blue Point motel becomes scene of sex trafficking bust, cops say

|
Shore Motor Inn in Blue Point was the scene of a sex trafficking bust on Friday.

What began as a domestic call Friday afternoon ended with a Queens man under arrest and what police said was a sex trafficking operation exposed at a Blue Point motel.

Torrey Brown, 35, who police said is homeless and has an active parole warrant, was arrested about 6:10 p.m. at the Shore Motor Inn along Sunrise Highway.

Officers from Suffolk Police’s Fifth Precinct initially responded at 5:22 p.m. to a 911 calls of domestic disturbance at the location. When they arrived, police said, they observed evidence of sex trafficking.

The scene drew significant police presence, with multiple patrol cars converging on the South Service Road location and officers with guns drawn, according to who observed the response while passing by.

A female employee who answered the phone at the Shore Motor Inn Friday evening declined to discuss the incident.

“It’s none of your business,” she told Greater Long Island before hanging up.

On Saturday, a woman answering the phone at the motel told Greater Long Island that “There was no sex trafficking bust … these are all allegations.”

The Shore Motor Inn, which remains open with vacancies, has seen its share of trouble.

In May 2023, a woman was strangled to death in a tractor-trailer cab parked outside the motel — a killing that resulted in a Yaphank truck driver being sentenced last December to 22 years to life in prison, as Greater Long Island reported.

Friday’s arrest marks the latest in a string of violent incidents at the property, which is located in the northernmost section of Blue Point, though it is sometimes listed under a Patchogue address.

Detectives on Friday seized cellphones, a knife and other evidence during their investigation, police said.

Brown was charged with two counts of sex trafficking, one count of third-degree attempted prostitution, and one count fourth-degree promoting prostitution. He was also held on an outstanding parole warrant issued by New York State Police, cops said.

Additionally, Brown was arrested in Suffolk on a drug charge. He faces a seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance related to the March 18 arrest. He is due back in court on Tuesday in that case.

Torrey was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and had been scheduled to be arraigned on the sex trafficking case Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip, but he is currently hospitalized, police said.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Human Trafficking Investigations Unit at 631.854.7512.
