Call it a doppio drive-thru.
Monday marked the grand opening of Long Island’s latest Starbucks, built at The Shops at Sunvet in Holbrook. But this particular Starbucks is part of a new concept being rolled out and the first in the U.S.
It’s a double-sided drive-thru. And that’s it.
There’s no going in and flipping open the laptop at this Starbucks. Or using the bathroom.
“This location is the first standard Double-Sided Drive Thru Only location in the U.S., with one drive-thru lane dedicated to mobile order pick up and one lane dedicated to traditional drive-thru ordering,” a Starbucks representative told Greater Long Island.
(Editor’s note: Readers have pointed out post-publication that the old East Setauket location is also a double drive-thru only, but that spot does not appear to be representative of the new concept.)
How it works

There are two drive-thru options at the new Starbucks location; one is dedicated only to mobile orders, and the other is for ordering at the window.
The building sits on a new pad outside the main Shops at Sunvet structure, like the old Kodak film hut, but much larger.
Meanwhile, work on the main buildings continues.
And the tenants keep lining up.
Last month, GLI reported that Shake Shack, Crumbl Cookies, and J.Crew have joined the tenant roster.
The highly anticipated open-air shopping center is slated to open in late 2025, marking a major transformation for the site that once housed Pathmark, Toys ‘R Us, Blockbuster and Agean Pizzeria, among a bevy of other storefronts, before declining into near vacancy.
Those new additions become part of an already impressive lineup of tenants, including Whole Foods, Starbucks, Nordstrom Rack, Sephora and Tony’s Tacos.
