Donald Trump is coming to Patchogue Village next Thursday, April 14.
The Republican presidential candidate will be the special guest at a Suffolk County Republican Committee fundraiser that runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Emporium music venue.
The Emporium holds about 1,100 people and tickets will be $100 each.
“We had been working on this for awhile, but his campaign just made the deal yesterday,” said Emporium co-owner Vincent Trimarco, also a Smithtown Town Republican Committee member. “And I just found out today.”
Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri said village officials have already huddled with brass at the Suffolk Police Department’s 5th Precinct about security, which will handled by the SCPD and Secret Service.
Emporium co-owner Tim Lorito said the venue would welcome any presidential candidate, whether Republican or Democrat, adding the owners have hosted parties for both sides of the political aisle.
Lorito said he wasn’t too concerned about potential safety issues in or around the Railroad Avenue venue.
“The Secret Service and police department will be able to handle it,” he said. “It’s a ticketed event, and we can only hold about 1,000 people. It’s not a large stadium.”
Referring to some of the anti-immigrant statements Trump has made on the campaign trail, Pontieri said he was a bit concerned the 2008 hate-fueled killing of Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero happened so close to where The Emporium is now.
“I don’t know if that raises any tensions,” he said. “That’s really my concern.”
Suffolk Republican leader John Jay LaValle wasn’t immediately available for comment.
Pontieri said Trump will be in Patchogue from about 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“I know he has to be back in New York City,” he said.
