UPDATE: Suffolk County Police have arrested a Brentwood man in the stabbing death of his mother. Jason S. Kurumoglu, 30, faces second-degree murder charges and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 11.

A 59-year-old woman was found dead from stab wounds in her home across the street from Brentwood’s North Elementary School on Tuesday, police said.
Cops said Third Precinct officers responded to a 911 call at 5:26 p.m. reporting a woman had been stabbed at 55 West White St. When police arrived, Melida Velasquez was found dead inside the residence.
The home is located directly across the street from the entrance to the elementary school.
