BrickHouse, Catch are building chili and chowder dynasties in Patchogue

|

The BrickHouse and Catch Oyster Bar are each building dynasties.

And a brand-new Patchogue eatery makes a splash.

That’s the takeaway from the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce’s annual Chili & Chowder Contest, which took place during Saturday’s big Fall Festival downtown.

In the chowder contest, the overwhelming choice was Catch Oyster Bar, yet again, with their Lobster Corn Chowder receiving 62 votes.

“This was far the most of any entry in any of the contests,” said the chamber’s executive director, David Kennedy.

Catch also took 50% of the vote in the 2017 contest, good for first place, and landed a close second in 2018.

Second place for chowder was much closer:

The Cheese Patch, with their Spicy Pumpkin Chicken & Corn Chowder edged in second with 17 votes, followed by Brickhouse Brewery with 15 votes for its Chicken Corn Chowder. That Meetball Place’s TMP Clam Chowder & Village Idiot Pub’s Seafood Chowder tied with 13 votes.

As for the chili, for the first time ever, we’re told, there was a tie for first place, with the BrickHouse and the brand-new Hometown Bake Shop each earning 26 votes.

The BrickHouse also took first place in 2017 and 2019.

The 2019 contest for second place was also very close, Del Fuego’s Turkey Chorizo Chili, with 15 votes, took the honor.

And on its heels was the Village Idiot Pub’s Traditional Chili and Swell Taco’s Special Chili, which tied for third with 11 votes.

The also new Duke’s Dogs‘ Special Chili came in just behind, with 10 votes.
