The Brookhaven Town Board has given the green light to a new two-story catering hall planned for Montauk Highway in Mastic.
The board unanimously approved the site plan and variances for the project during a public hearing held on Jan. 9.
The proposed catering hall, to be built at 1406 Montauk Highway, will span 18,195 square feet and feature two venue halls, one upstairs and another on the ground floor. There will also be extensive landscaping along Cumberland Street, as well as onsite parking. Any current structures on the property will be torn down to make way for the catering hall.
The applicant is Javid Malik, and while listed as the “Javid Malik Catering Hall” on an application that’s floated around Town Hall for about two years, the catering hall’s name has yet to be finalized. Artist renderings of the hall indicate “Mastic-Shirley Catering Hall” as the name.
“This type of business is something the community has been waiting for,” Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico said during the hearing. “It’s going to be full. There’s a lack of this type of use in the immediate area.”
The 119-seat catering hall has undergone several revisions since its initial proposal, including adjustments to its size and architecture. The property used to be home to Sam’s Discount Tire.
