Brookhaven to launch drive-thru tax collection operations

|

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Town of Brookhaven Receiver of Taxes Louis Marcoccia and Supervisor Ed Romaine announced that alternate tax collection operations will begin Monday and run until June 1 (senior citizens with Enhanced STAR exemptions will be able to pay through June 8).

This schedule is subject to change should Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone or Gov. Andrew Cuomo alter the collection schedule. The alternate tax collection locations are:

  • Brookhaven Town Hall, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville,  9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Drive-thru service only; no cash accepted.
  • Town of Brookhaven Parks Administration Building, 286 Hawkins Road, Centereach, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Walkup window with social distancing pavement markings. No drive-thru. Cash accepted.

Due to reduced staffing, wait times could be substantial at these locations, the town advised in a statement.\

Anyone paying at these locations must wear a protective face covering or mask to cover the nose and mouth.

Residents can still reach the tax receiver’s office by telephone and email. Tax payments can also be made in the following ways:

  • ONLINE: The Tax Receiver has worked with the vendor to cut the fee in half to 75 cents. Credit card payments remain at 2.35% of the amount charged, a fee which is charged by the vendor, not the town. Go to BrookhavenNY.gov/PayTax
  • MAIL: The postmark date is used to determine your payment date. Mail to: Receiver of Taxes, Brookhaven Town Hall, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville, NY 11738.
  • DROP BOX: You may drop your payment in our secure drop box located at the front entrance of Brookhaven Town Hall.
