The newly renovated Byron Lake Pool facility in Oakdale is hosting a free pool party on Thursday, July 25, to celebrate the pool’s grand reopening this summer.
From 4 to 6 p.m., the Town of Islip will offer free access to the facility. The celebration will include DJ music, hot dogs and children’s games.
The pool, located on Bayview Drive South, took on a $20 million facelift over the last two years. Improvements include new state-of-the-art pools, completely refurbished grounds, an expanded concessions area, a spray park and new slides at one of the pools.
Additionally, Islip has extended hours for town pools, spray parks and bay beaches on July 16 and 17 due to the high temperatures. Town pools and spray parks will stay open until 7:15 p.m. and bay beaches will be open until 7 p.m. on both days.
What changed at Byron Lake
Below are some of the other significant changes at the Byron Lake Pool:
• The existing pools were demolished from the ground up and new, state-of-the-art pools have been installed.
• The building roof was completely replaced, and siding was added to the building.
• The concession area was increased and updated.
• The town added a driveway that leads up to the pool entrance to improve ADA accessibility; a drop-off area for patrons was also created.
• Upgrades to the facility’s septic system.
