Cancelled: Shirley’s ‘Hebrew Hammer’ will not defend his title Saturday night in Huntington

|

As it turns out, Hammer time will not be tonight in Huntington.

A title boxing match between Shirley native Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin and Victor Vazquez at The Paramount tonight is cancelled due to a medical issue for Vazquez.

“I regret to inform you that my fight at the Paramount, 9/4 is cancelled. I have been training hard as I always do and came ready for war and made weight today at 144.6,” Seldin, the NABO super lightweight champ, said in an Instagram post on Friday. “Unfortunately my opponent did not pass his medical clearance and was not given a boxing license by the New York State Athletic Commission.”

The Longwood High School graduate added that he is “looking to get back in the ring as soon as possible.” Seldin said he is in shape and “looking for a knockout.”

Seldin, who lives in Bay Shore, has lost just once in 26 bouts, but he hasn’t boxed since successfully defending his title on Feb. 28, 2020, with a TKO win over Colombian Luis Florez.

Saturday night is still all right for fighting for Bellport’s Alex “El Toro” Vargas. His fight with Colombian native Alejandro Munera is now the main event on The Paramount card that kicks off at 8 p.m.
