Coffee and taco spots may fill vacant Centereach building, councilman says

A long-empty commercial property on Middle Country Road in Centereach may soon see new life, with a coffee lounge and taco joint being considered for the site, Brookhaven Town Councilman Neil Manzella said on Sunday.

Manzella announced that he met this week with the new owners of 1702 Middle Country Road — the former Saigon Casa and Blu Bar building located just east of McDonald’s — and said early plans point toward two new businesses moving in.

“It’s still very early in the process, but there is a strong possibility that this site will become two new businesses, a coffee lounge and a taco spot,” Manzella wrote on his Facebook page.

He noted the proposed coffee shop would not be a Starbucks, but “a unique place I’ve never seen before with a new concept that is apparently a big deal.”

Cleanup crews have been visible at the long-vacant property in recent days, prompting speculation among residents. Manzella said he hopes the update will “get the jump on the rumor mill” and added that he would share more details as plans progress.

“I am thrilled by the prospect of seeing another vacant building being filled with new life,” he said.

Manzella did provide details on a timeline for approvals or construction.
