Chipotle opens in Long Beach, taking over former movie theater space

|

A prominent Long Beach corner that once smelled like movie theater popcorn is now serving up burritos, bowls and grilled meats.

Chipotle Mexican Grill officially opened Wednesday, March 18, at 179 E. Park Ave., moving into a retail space carved out of the former Long Beach Cinemas site at the corner of Park Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard.

The movie theater closed in April 2023, leaving the high-visibility property vacant for more than two years before it was subdivided. Chipotle is one of the first tenants to debut in the reimagined space, while other portions of the building remain available for lease.

The fast-casual chain is now open daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Long Beach customers will be able to try Chipotle’s latest limited-time offering, Chicken al Pastor, along with the brand’s new high-protein menu, which features items ranging from 15 to 81 grams of protein. Options include bowls like the Double High Protein Bowl and High Protein-High Fiber Bowl, as well as a new High Protein Cup and a single chicken taco.

The location will also offer Chipotle’s “Build-Your-Own” catering option, designed to serve four to six people, allowing customers to customize meals for groups at home.

Chipotle, founded in Denver in 1993, has grown into one of the largest restaurant chains in the country, with more than 3,800 locations nationwide, including dozens across Long Island.
