Bombs away!
Hot cocoa bombs — winter’s instantly popular new chocolatey treat — are taking Long Island (and the rest of the world) by storm.
The bombs are chocolate molds filled with hot cocoa and marshmallows. By pouring hot milk on it, the molds quickly transform into hot chocolate.
The craze kicked off this holiday season thanks to several viral TikTok videos.
With the demand so high on Long Island, we created a quick guide to some places offering the dessert.
We also sprinkled some variety from places doing their own renditions of the bombs.
Sayville Chocolatier
The Sayville Chocolatier is all in on the chocolate bomb game, selling over 1,000 a week.
The chocolate shop offers milk cocoa, dark cocoa, white cocoa bombs, and a yeti bomb with white cocoa powder with marshmallows and white chocolate.
Each bomb goes for $6.99.
Sayville Chocolatier bombs are created by owner Mary Ellen Verabarg and her daughters Jessica Mordente and Kate Verabarg. They use real Belgian chocolate made in house by their chocolate tempering machine.
“The demand is real,” said Mordente, adding that they’ve struggled to keep bombs stocked.
The shop owner suggests acting quickly if you’d like to snag a bomb of your own.
You can place an order over the phone or through Facebook Messenger or on Instagram.
Toast Coffeehouse in Bay Shore
One of the things that makes the cocoa bombs unique at Toast Coffeehouse in Bay Shore is the flavors.

“They’re made with love and made in house,” said John Ceravino, co-owner of Toast. “Our flavors constantly change.”
There are also boozy bombs.
One is made with Jackson Morgan Banana Whiskey Cream, and another is served as a classic Irish Cream Baileys bomb.
The alcohol comes on the side if you choose to have a boozy bomb.
All bombs are made in-house. The chocolate comes from Kerri’s Kandies in Coram.

A standard bomb ($5) has white marshmallows, and a deluxe bomb ($8.50) is made with hand-made peppermint marshmallows.
There’s a bomb with multi-colored marshmallows.
Torte Jeff also offers a peanut butter cookie bomb with peanut butter drizzle and peanut butter chips.
“The response was so overwhelming,” said Harris, who added her shop has sold between 50-75 bombs a week since launching the product.
“My premium ingredients are what I’m focused on with my bombs.”
