Christian Guardino keeps going; Patchogue singer advances to ‘American Idol’ top 10

|

He’s not the only one. But now he’s just one of 10.

“American Idol” contestant Christian Guardino of Patchogue killed it again on the mic tonight, electrifying the live audience, impressing each of the three celebrity judges and clearly pleasing the rest of America, who voted him in as one of 10 finalists.

With the crowd inside Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre standing and swaying to his powerful voice, Guardino, 22, sang Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” and made the song his own.

“You are so special. You turned Sam’s song into your song,” judge Lionel Richie said. “The whole vibe was fabulous.”

Host Ryan Seacrest had the first word, immediately following Guardino’s performance — before the judges got their chance to shower the performer with praise.

“You know what you do?” Seacrest asked, ready to answer the question himself. “You make people happy!”

The humble Guardino replied: “Thanks. I try my best.”

Judge Luke Bryan told Guardino, “Anything that you don’t do perfectly right is because you’re nervous, and we can see it. And it’s so fun to watch. [And] everything you do right, it’s [because] you’re just amazing.”
