Christian Guardino’s ‘American Idol’ journey ends after making Top 7

|

The Patchogue singer’s “American Idol” journey has come to an end.

Christian Guardino and fellow competitor, Jay Copeland, were just shy of making the Top 5 as both were voted off at the end of Sunday night’s episode.

The 22-year-old singer performed two final songs on the “American Idol” stage — the first was Justin Bieber’s “Lonely” and the second was “Dear God” by Smokie Norful, dedicated to his mom, Beth, for Mother’s Day.

Beth and Guardino’s grandmother were both in tears while watching the tribute and the audience was captivated by Christian as he belted the lyrics “Thank you, Jesus, for my life.”

Guardino advanced all the way to the final seven contestants and received positive remarks throughout his “American Idol” experience from the celebrity judges and star-studded mentors.

“Christian, that was one of your best, it was so authentically you,” Katy Perry said of his last song.

Although his time competing on ‘Idol’ has reached its end, Guardino will return for the finale to sing with Canadian jazz singer Michael Bublé on May 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
