Community forum on proposed Starbucks in Shirley, May 16

|

Starbucks is inching closer toward opening its next location on Long Island’s South Shore.

The coffee giant has submitted to Brookhaven’s town board a proposal — including artist renderings and a detailed site plan — for a drive-through shop inside Shirley’s Floyd Harbor Center. A public hearing on the project is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Town Hall, located 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.

The proposed 1,830-square-foot coffee shop would be located in the same Montauk Highway shopping plaza that now features an Aldi supermarket and an Applebee’s restaurant, among other retailers. Northwell Health’s Peconic Bay Medical Center opened a medical campus in the shopping center last year.

The plan calls for the cafe to have 17 interior seats, and another eight seats outside. The closest existing Starbucks is six miles away, inside the Stop & Shop on Patchogue Yaphank Road in Medford.

Perspective: Artist renderings

Below are artist renderings of the proposed project at 844 Montauk Highway in Shirley:

Town Supervisor Dan Panico has said the plans would not require any additional curb cuts onto Montauk Highway, “as all existing ingress and egress to the center will remain the same.”
