Community rushes in to help Farmingville mom recovering from massive heart attack

|

Donations continue to pour in for the family of a Farmingville mother who is recovering from a massive heart attack she suffered nearly two weeks ago.

Jennifer Sciara — pictured above with her family — faces an extended hospital stay and a long recovery from the cardiac event she experienced on July 14, her sister Jacquelyn Newell said on a GoFundMe page she established on behalf of Sciara and her family.

Doctors discovered a 100-percent blockage in one of Sciara’s main arteries and placed two stents during emergency surgery, Newell said.

“[It] was touch and go all weekend. By the grace of god and with an army of people praying for her she made it through the weekend,” Newell said. “She has made tremendous improvement — she is a fighter. She has a very, very long road ahead.”

Touched by Sciara’s circumstances, the community has donated more than $50,000 to the GoFundMe effort for Sciara and her family. The contributions will be used to offset medical bills for Sciara’s treatment.

“Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated and we promise everyone will get a selfie with her once she is out ❤️,” Newell posted on the GoFundMe page.

Sciara’s friend Sue Martines posted a heartfelt note along with her donation: “Keep fighting Jenn. You got this! So many people are there for you and your family and praying. Miss your smile when i see you or pass my house during your walks ❤️.”

As of noon on Wednesday, there have been 576 donations on the GoFundMe page for Sciara.
