Count ’em! Nine BBP girls lax seniors commit to Division I programs

|

Fifteen senior student-athletes at Bayport-Blue Point High School signed letters of intent this month to play Division I sports in college — and incredibly, nine of them play girls lacrosse.

Girls lacrosse Coach Ryan Gick said some of the girls will have played six years of varsity lacrosse by the time they graduate this spring.

“To see these young ladies … use their abilities and intellect to get themselves into such prestigious schools, gives me great pride,” he said. “They have made such a tremendous impact on our lacrosse program, setting an example for so many of our younger student-athletes.”

Here’s a breakdown of who’s going where:

Megan Brockbank: University of Massachusetts Lowell
Maggie Clark: James Madison University
Ailish Kelly: Stanford University
Jackie Mason: Brown University
Sarah Most: University of Delaware
Juliana O’Hara: Stetson University
Angelina Sparacio: Quinnipiac University
Julia Steneck: Quinnipiac University
Madison Waters: (USC) University of Southern California

“It’ll be very exciting to see what they’ll each do individually at the highest levels of collegiate lacrosse,” Gick said. “This is a tremendously hardworking group of girls who deserve everything that is coming their way.”

It’s also going to be exciting to follow the girls team this spring, as they pursue a county championship and more. Last year, the Phantoms narrowly lost to Westhampton in the Suffolk Class C semifinals, finishing the season 12-2.

Here’s a list of the six other Bayport-Blue Point seniors who have committed to playing for Division I collegiate sports programs.

Rich Cimpric: Franklin Pierce University for baseball
Greg DeGeorge: Sacred Heart University for volleyball
Dane Fasano: Lynn University for lacrosse
Francesco Geraci: Queens College for baseball
Audrey Saroka: Navy for soccer
Mackenzie Thomas: University of Rhode Island for swimming
