Count ’em: St. Joseph’s College women’s cross country wins 14th conference title in Milton, NY

You can never win enough championships.

Consider the women’s cross country team at St. Joseph’s College’s Long Island campus, bullies of the Skyline Conference.

Led by an array of graduates of high schools across Suffolk County, the Golden Eagles captured SJC Long Island’s 14th conference title at the 2021 Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome last month.

SJC Long Island is now set to compete on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the ECAC Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.

The Golden Eagles were led by freshman Gianna Dickson, a senior from Hauppauge who placed second with a 6K time of 25:57.3. The criminal justice major was named the conference’s Rookie of the Year. 

Junior Emily Venturi, a Sachem East alumnae from Farmingville who is majoring in Childhood Education, finished third with a time of 26:13.6. Freshman Melanie Walsh, a Connetquot graduate from Ronkonkoma who is studying accounting, placed sixth.

She was followed by senior Caleigh Capek of Wading River (9th), Julia Boris of Holbrook (10th), Marissa Degni of Lake Grove (11th), Julia Schaefer of Center Moriches (13th), and Alex Ehrhart (14th), a Connetquot graduate from Patchogue who also plays lacrosse at St. Joseph’s.

Golden Eagles coach Jim Crowley was named conference Coach of the Year.
