County recognizes Mastic Ambulance Company Chief as a ‘Healthcare Hero’

|

Mastic Ambulance Company Chief Maria Landman is being honored as a Healthcare Hero in a new program started up this year by the Suffolk County Legislature.

Landman, who was selected as the healthcare Hero for the 3rd Legislative District, has served with the ambulance company for over 30 years, including the last eight as chief. The company responds to more than 3,200 emergency calls a year.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has not slowed down the need for emergency first responders, and Maria has selflessly led her ambulance company throughout this pandemic,” Legis. Jim Mazzarella said.

“Her tireless devotion to the emergency services, her ambulance company, all of the members, and the community that she serves is a testament to her status as a Healthcare Hero,” he added.

County legislators established the Healthcare Hero recognition program in March. It will annually recognize a Healthcare Hero in each legislative district.

“Maria and heroes like her are perfect examples of why this Legislation was approved,” Mazzarella said. “It is important that we take the time to thank and highlight Healthcare Heroes for their selfless work in service to their community, not just during this past pandemic, but for all that they continue to do.”
