Stock up on your crafting supplies while you can — Michaels in Shirley is closing.
A newly posted sign inside the store announces the closure: “We’re closing this location only. We look forward to inspiring you again soon at one of our other Michaels stores.”
An employee confirmed the news, stating the store is expected to close sometime this spring, likely by May, though it could happen sooner.
Currently, all sales are final at the store, located at 1019 Montauk Hwy, Unit 1, in the Southport Shopping Center. There are still 12 other Michaels locations on Long Island, with the closest in Patchogue, Medford, Rocky Point, and Riverhead.
The closure comes despite a recent resurgence in the Shirley shopping center, which has welcomed several new businesses in recent years, including Old Navy, Buffalo Wild Wings Go, Pacific Tanning, and Planet Fitness.
