‘Crazy Beans’ owners are settling into their new Miller Place location

|

Crazy Beans is settlling into its new digs quite nicely.

Early this year, the popular luncheonette relocated from its original location in Miller Place into the former Tuscany Gourmet Market building on Route 25A. (It is now in the same shopping center as Party Hardy and CVS, across from Alexandros.)

“It has a lot more space; it is great,” said owner Callie Martino, who opened Crazy Beans in 2012. “The kitchen is huge now.”

the backstory

The idea of bringing Crazy Beans’ craziness to life started in Stony Brook, where Callie grew up.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed waitressing and bartending in places like The Bench and Tap & Barrel.

“I fell in love with it,” she said. “I love that connection with people.”

Soon after graduating from college, she decided to open her own shop.

She chose the name Crazy Beans because she frequented a coffeehouse in St. James that she adored called Cool Beans growing up.

The Ward Melville High grad also liked this quote that was featured in Apple’s Think Different campaign in the late 90s: “Here’s to the crazy ones… because the people that are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do,” the quote read.

In 2013, everything was energized when Callie met her would-be husband, Tim.

“It was his birthday and he came in for breakfast,” she explained. “I put a candle in his sausage, egg, and cheese.”

Months later, the two reconnected and quickly fell in love.

It wasn’t long before they teamed up and together opened a second location in Stony Brook. In 2016, they would open their third spot, in Greenport.

Tim, who previously co-owned East Coast Burrito in Setauket, runs the kitchen, while Callie works the front end.

As of now, there are no plans for a fourth location, rather the couple is focusing on doing what they do best.

“My favorite thing will always be the people,” Callie said. “Bringing people together and having fun.”
