Cuomo deems golf courses ‘nonessential’ and are immediately closed

|

As per executive order by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, golf courses are no longer essential, and are closed effective April 9 until further notice.

Many local golfers are fuming at the governor’s call.

Commack native Chris White called it nonsensical to close golf courses, even to walkers.

“If you ever walked a golf course with another person, 90 percent of the time you are over 100 yards away from each other,” he said.

Last week, Cuomo ordered New York State remain “on pause” through April 29. On the subject of un-pausing the economy, Cuomo appears to be setting himself to shift blame to Washington for any prolonged delays.

“Reopening will be a gradual process and it all comes down to testing,” Cuomo wrote today on Twitter. “We developed an antibody test but we need the federal government to help. They must use the Defense Production act to rapidly scale up testing. If I could — I would.”
