Cuomo: New York wedding venues can increase capacity to up to 150 people

|

Great news for wedding venues across Long Island and the entire state.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced new measures Friday to increase seating capacity for receptions to 50 percent capacity, with a cap of 150 guests. Current restrictions allow for 50 people per reception.

The state’s new rule kicks in on March 15, and it comes with an important clause: Each guest must be tested by a local health department prior to the event, Cuomo said during a press conference held in Albany.

According to reports, New York is working on developing an app that would list guests’ names that have been tested.

Cuomo on Friday also revealed plans to reopen indoor dining on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, in New York City at 25 percent capacity.

Statewide, COVID-19 cases are down from a few weeks ago. During the holidays, the area’s COVID-19 positivity rate surged past 7 percent.

As of today, the state saw 12,579 new positive cases with a positivity rate of 4.65 percent.
