A Deer Park driver hit a 13-year-old boy on a bicycle in West Islip on Monday and kept going, Suffolk Police said.
Charles Dreitlein, 67, of 1 Dix St., was arrested outside his home at 6:05 p.m. after a multi-unit investigation identified him as the driver who struck the boy on Roderick Road, near Spruce Avenue, on Sunday about 7:45 p.m., cops said.
Suffolk Police Third Precinct Investigative Unit officers, assisted by the Criminal Intelligence Section and Third Squad detectives, tracked down Dreitlein and charged him with third-degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.
Police did not describe the nature of the injuries the boy sustained in the collision.
Dreitlein was being held overnight at Suffolk Police’s Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip.
