Despite rumors, Tractor Supply still powering forward in West Babylon

|

Rumors that Tractor Supply Co. is backing out of plans to open a West Babylon location in a vacated ShopRite have been greatly exaggerated.

In fact, they’re patently false, town officials said.

Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer tells Greater Long Island that Tractor Supply Co. is still moving forward and is expected to open in the spring.

“We just awarded them a grant for $20,000 to help them with the move, and they expect to be open in April or May,” Schaffer said. “They are currently bidding out the internal work that needs to be done and expect to start right after the holidays.”

The new store, Long Island’s third, is planned for 50-110 Route 109, where a ShopRite closed on October 10, 2021.

The property had sat vacant even since.

What’s described by Tractor Supply Co. as a “rural lifestyle retailer,” the company’s stores offer farm supplies, animal and pet feed, clothing, home decor, seasonal goods, tools, fencing and more.

This is the first Tractor Supply Co. location to open on Long Island since Medford and Calverton in 2019. There are none in Nassau County.

As of September 28, 2024, the company operated 2,270 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states, the TSC website reads.

Tractor Supply has been in business for over 85 years and employs more than 50,000 people.
