Dragon boats take over Port Jefferson Harbor for 12th annual festival

|

The colorful sights and sounds of dragon boat racing returned to Port Jefferson Harbor Saturday for one of the village’s most anticipated annual events.

The 12th annual Port Jefferson Dragon Boat Race Festival took over Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park on Sept. 19, bringing teams of paddlers to the waterfront for a full day of racing and festivities.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with elaborately decorated dragon boats competing on the harbor as spectators line the waterfront to cheer on the crews.

The festival has become a September tradition in Port Jefferson, combining competition on the water with a lively atmosphere along the village’s harborfront.

Greater Long Island was there Saturday to capture the action.
