Drift 82 to host Coney Island-inspired hot dog eating contest on Fourth of July

|

The owners of Drift 82 are giving Long Islanders the opportunity to channel their inner Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi.

On the Fourth of July, the Patchogue riverside eatery will be hosting its own version of Coney Island’s famed Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The free-to-enter event, which is sponsored by the Coney Island Brewing Company, will be offering grand prizes to whoever downs the most dogs.

The rules of contest will mimic the iconic competition on Coney Island—all you can eat in under 10 minutes. However, to win the top prize, you won’t have to slam down 74 hot dogs, like “Jaws” did last year.

“The winner will receive a tour of the Coney Island Brewing Co., a bunch of swag, as well as a $250 cash prize,” said John Sarno, co-owner of Drift 82.

The eating competition will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

If you aren’t interested in participating but want to watch, there will be plenty of fun going around Drift 82 with live music as well as performances by a stilt walker and sword swallower.

For those who want to give it a go, below are some tips on how to guzzle the most hot dogs from a former pro eater.
