Police say the abuse came to light after it was disclosed to a mandated reporter, who alerted CPS
An East Hampton man is set to appear in court on Friday accused of sexually abusing two young children — over a three-year period, East Hampton Town Police said late Tuesday.
Jose Mejia-Albarracin, 58, is charged with second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child. He also faces a third-degree sexual abuse charge and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said the case began when the abuse was disclosed to a mandated reporter, who then notified Child Protective Services. The children were 6 and 14 years old at the time of the alleged incidents, police said.
After a detective interview, investigators determined the younger child was abused multiple times between February 2018 and September 2019. The older child, now an adult, was abused between February and April 2016, police said.
Police said they are continuing to investigate Mejia-Albarracin, and are asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of the defendant to call East Hampton Town Police at 631.537.7575.
Police did not specify how Mejia-Albarracin knew the children or where the alleged abuse happened. He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at East Hampton Town Justice Court.
