East Main & Main owner to launch restaurant with ‘illegally good food’ in Port Jeff

|

Food that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

That is the motto of Port Jefferson’s soon-to-be-opened American-style restaurant Prohibition Kitchen.

The eatery, which is being launched by East Main & Main co-owner Lisa Harris, is located in the former Kimi Japenese Restaurant, next to Kilwins.

“Casual dining with illegally good food,” described Harris, who is eyeing a mid-March opening for her new venture.

Some of her unlawful dishes even incorporate doughy treats from her donut shop up the road.

“We have this take on poutines,” explained Harris, “It is garlic donut holes filled with porter-infused gravy, short ribs, and queso-covered poutines.”

Harris, a Port Jeff resident, wanted to add something fun and different to the area.

“I have owned restaurants and cafes for over 20 years,” she said. “I want people to enjoy tasting different things.”

That’s where she came up with the ideas for her Eight Slice Death Punch grilled cheese (includes three different kinds of cheese, bacon, and tomato) and her You’re A Dirty Mother Clucker sandwich (Southern fried chicken served on a donut with light gravy.)

There will also be 14 “Swanky Sharables” appetizers for patrons to try with their friends and family.

In addition, the wide-ranging menu will include stuffed waffles, skillets, flatbreads, sandwiches, boozy milkshakes, among other items. According to the owner, the entire menu will be served all day long.

Prohibition Kitchen, which will sit around 40 patrons, will have a focus on local products, offering Long Island wine, beer, and spirits. The restaurant will also use local bakers for its bread.

“We want to be a focused partner of local businesses,” said Harris, who grew up in Miller Place. “We really want to showcase the great things Long Island makes.”
