Suffolk County Police say a firearm was recovered following a fight near a youth football game Sunday morning in East Patchogue.
Cops said a group of people were involved in an altercation in front of 49 Richmond Ave. — directly across the street from the football field — about 10:10 a.m. Two individuals have been arrested and are in custody, police said on Tuesday.
Police emphasized that no one was injured and no shots were fired during the incident. They further clarified that the fight did not take place on the football field and that investigators are determining whether the incident was connected to events happening at the youth football game.
Neighbors and witnesses described to News 12 Long Island seeing a tense scene and a heavy police presence, with authorities quickly securing the area and interviewing those involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk County Police.
