Eastport-South Manor student completes Brookhaven lab research program

|

Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School student Diana Schryver was one of 78
students from the region to participate in Brookhaven National Laboratory’s highly-
competitive High School Research Program this summer.

The program allows for students to work with science, engineering and technical staff during a six-week period with hands-on projects that support the missions of the lab and the Department of Energy.

Diana worked with mentor Dr. Tiffany Victor-Lovelace at the NSLS-II National Synchrotron Light Source II in the Imaging and Microscopy Program. Her research involved “investigating tolerance mechanisms of Suillus tomentosus exposed to zinc stress.”

It’s not the first time Diana has participated in research at BNL. She previously participated in Brookhaven lab’s High School Summer Prep Institute. Diana said she is very thankful to her teachers and science research teacher, Robert Bolen, for mentoring her in her research and studies.
