Ecuadorian restaurant La Gran Amazonia opens in Patchogue

|

La Gran Amazonia is bringing a taste of Ecuador to Patchogue.

The new spot opened earlier this month at 219 East Main Street — after nearly a year of planning.

“The pandemic set things back,” co-owner Rosa Marquez told GreaterPatchogue this week.

With her cousins running a restaurant in New Jersey, Marquez and her co-owner, Angel Quiroga, liked the idea of opening their own place in Patchogue and ran with it.

Known already locally for their ceviche and other homemade Ecuadorian dishes, Marquez said her goal is to provide quality, affordable food to anyone who walks in the door.

“We’re giving people a taste of our home,” she said. “It’s fresh, delicious and we want other cultures to try it.”

Although the pandemic made things a little harder, Marquez said that since opening the spot has been busy.

“We want to succeed even with the pandemic and bring to every culture a little bit of what we know,” she said.

La Gran Amazonia’s is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
