Emergency maintenance and transportation crews were preparing today to tow away a small plane that landed safely on Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai at sunset on Wednesday.
Suffolk Police said the 60-year-old male pilot and his one passenger, a 59-year-old woman, were not injured in the 7:30 p.m. landing. Additionally, no one on the beach — a popular destination to watch the sun go down over the horizon in Port Jefferson — was injured.
The plane knocked over at least one sign as it touched down and rolled in the sand along the shore. It nearly toppled over as it came to a rest just north of the basketball courts located at the west end of the beach parking lot. [Scroll down for exclusive photos.]
