Sherwood-Jayne House Open for Tours Saturdays
July 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
FreeHistoric Sherwood-Jayne Farm (ca. 1730) in Setauket is open for guided and self-guided tours from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays June through October. Reserve tours in advance through our online booking system.
Additional tour days may be announced throughout the season, check the Preservation Long Island website for house opening updates.
Originally built around 1730 as a lean-to saltbox dwelling, the house and agricultural setting were maintained as an operational farmstead for over 150 years by members of the Jayne family.
Once the home of Revolutionary War loyalist William Jayne II, also known as “Big Bill the Tory,” the site is a stop on Washington’s Spy trail and Big Bill participates in annual Culper Spy Day events!
The house contains period furnishings and features original late eighteenth-century hand-painted floral wall frescoes. Located in a bucolic setting, the house maintains its nineteenth-century agrarian context with hayfields, meadows, woodlot, orchard, and pasture.
The grounds of the farm and nature trails are open to the public year-round from dawn until dusk.
