Long Island is just two months away from welcoming its first Wegmans grocery store.
The popular Rochester-based chain is set to open its Lake Grove location on Feb. 26. Greater Long Island broke the news of the grand opening on Thursday, Dec. 5.
The new 100,000-square-foot store, located at 3270 Middle Country Road in the DSW Plaza, will employ over 500 people in both full- and part-time roles.
The GLI team swung by the new location to take an exclusive tour of the space as it starts to take shape.
The planned arrival of Wegmans on Long Island — following store openings in Brooklyn and Manhattan — has been highly anticipated by Wegmans fans and Lake Grove officials alike.
When the family-owned chain announced its Long Island expansion in April 2022, Lake Grove’s mayor praised the move as a “positive addition to our village” that would help boost local retail.
“The company has a reputation that will bring folks near and far into Lake Grove to do their shopping,” Mayor Robert Scottaline said at the time.
Wegmans operates 111 stores across eight states and employs more than 53,000 people.
The Long Island store will feature all the bells and whistles fans love, said Dawn Cooper, store manager of Wegmans Lake Grove. This including restaurant foods, such as sushi, pizza, sandwiches and chef-made salads, an overflowing produce department and a wide variety of fish, meats, deli and cheeses.
The store will also feature the company’s mascot, Casanova the Rooster, who will greet customers at the top of every hour.
