Farmingville mother and 20-year-old daughter killed in separate car accidents

|

A Farmingville family is coping this week with the heart-wrenching loss of a 20-year-old woman in a car wreck — less than nine months after the woman’s mother was killed in a road accident.

Olivia Montgomery died Saturday night after she lost control of the 2016 Dodge Ram she was driving onto westbound Sunrise Highway from the Exit 61 ramp in East Moriches, police said. In the 10:50 p.m. accident, Montgomery’s truck left the roadway and overturned, and she was thrown from the vehicle, according to police.

Montgomery had been helping look after and provide for her younger sister and brother, Sophia and Thomas, since the siblings lost their mother last November, according to the organizer of a GoFundMe effort that’s been established on behalf of Sophia and Thomas Montgomery.

Ann Marie DiGennaro-Montgomery was struck and killed by a Ford 150 pickup truck while walking at 10:55 p.m. along County Road 83 in Mount Sinai on Nov. 3, which was a Thursday.

Sophia’s employer Joe’s Pizza & Pasta created the GoFundMe post “to ensure Sophia and her brother aren’t alone.”

“In just a short span, Sophia tragically lost her mother, and most recently, her elder sister—the caretaker and provider for her and her younger brother,” reads the GoFundMe post. “Their world has been turned upside down, and she’s confronted with challenges that no teenager should ever have to face.

“As her employer and as part of the tight-knit community of the Sachem School District, we feel compelled to stand by her side and help in any way we can,” the post continued.

The fundraiser was developed to help address immediate funeral and related expenses, support Sophia and Thomas’ basic needs and to help safeguard their future and well-being.

The GoFundMe collection has received more than $18,000 in donations as of early Thursday afternoon.

“Olivia was a dear friend of mine, she had such a kind soul and It hurts to hear that she’s gone. she will be loved and missed by many,” Rafaela Godoy commented on the GoFundMe page. “My heart and prayers go out to Sophia and Thomas.”

Olivia Montgomery is additionally survived by her father John and her grandparents. She also leaves behind her dog Milton.

Services for Montgomery will be held at Robertaccio Funeral Home, 495 Main St. in Center Moriches, on Friday, Aug. 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Closing sentiments will be shared at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m.
