For second year in a row, Stony Brook Hospital makes ‘Top 100 Hospitals in U.S.’ list

Stony Brook University Hospital again has landed on the list of the “Top 100 100 Hospitals in America” by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.

This is the second year that SBUH has earned the feat, making it the first Long Island hospital to achieve this mark.

Healthgrades picks the top medical institutions after evaluating nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades analyzes patient outcomes data from 32 of the most common conditions or procedures.

The distinction honors the top 2% of hospitals across the states.

“Receiving this rating for 2019 and 2020 is the result of Stony Brook’s ongoing commitment to high-quality patient care,” said Michael Bernstein, interim president of Stony Brook University and head of the hospital’s governance team. “It is also a testament to the excellence of our physicians, nurses, and hospital staff.”

Last fall, Stony Brook University Hospital also landed on Healthgrade’s “Top 100 Hospitals in U.S.” list for three different healthcare services: best cardiac care, coronary intervention, and stroke care.

“These are very meaningful differences in clinical outcomes for our patients,” said Carol Gomes, chief executive officer for Stony Brook University Hospital. “They are the direct result of the high-quality care provided by our staff every day. Simply put, these are outcomes that save lives.”
