The Fresh Grocer in Oakdale is checking out.
Greater Long Island has learned that the supermarket located in the Lighthouse Commons shopping center on Montauk Highway is expected to close for good in two weeks.
The store opened in August 2024 and marked the first New York location for the Pennsylvania-based chain, which operates more than 20 stores along the East Coast. The Fresh Grocer is a sister brand to ShopRite.
As GLI previously reported, the 26,000-square-foot supermarket is owned and operated by the Thompson family — three generations of grocers who also run three ShopRite locations on Long Island, in Riverhead, Deer Park, and Uniondale.
The Oakdale location has seen frequent turnover in recent years. Prior to The Fresh Grocer’s arrival, the space was occupied by the independently owned Fresh Food Supermarket for about seven months. That store replaced Best Yet Market, which closed in 2016.
The area is also home to several competing grocery options. A Lidl Food Market is located about two miles away on Sunrise Highway, while an ALDI operates less than three miles away in Bohemia.
Greater Long Island reached out to The Fresh Grocer team for comment on the closure. Check back for updates.
