Two recent college grads turned their front yard into a pit stop for coffee, muffins and even a lift to the train station.
As Long Island businesses reap the benefits of Ryder Cup week, two recent college grads in Farmingdale found their own way to join the action — by turning their front yard into a pop-up coffee stand for the thousands of fans walking past on their way to Bethpage Black.
“We realized so many people were going to be walking right past the house to get inside,” Julianna Kasper told Greater Long Island. “We knew it was going to be very early in the morning and they probably needed caffeine.”
So Kasper and her friend Colleen White set their alarms for 3:30 a.m., and by 4 a.m., the coffee was already brewing.
Their setup also included muffins, donuts and energy drinks.
“It’s been fun interacting with all the fans,” White said. “We had at least 100 people buy something in the first few hours.”
White, a graduate of FIT, and Kasper, who just earned her degree from Stony Brook, didn’t stop at coffee and snacks.
They also rented out their driveway for $120 per spot — and even cashed in on an impromptu taxi service.
“A guy walked by and asked how much for a ride,” Kasper said with a laugh. “I asked how much he had on him. He handed me $40, so I drove him to the Farmingdale train station.”
Not every request was so easy to fill.
The women said a group of fans asked for alcohol at 4 a.m., but they had to break the news: no beer on the menu.
