German Doner Kebab brings its global flavor to Long Island

|

German Doner Kebab, the international fast-casual sensation known for redefining the classic doner, has officially landed on Long Island.

The new restaurant opened this summer at 1759 Middle Country Road in Centereach, marking the first GDK location in Nassau or Suffolk counties.

The franchise, owned locally by Talha Kirmani, introduces the Island to the chain’s signature dish — The Original— featuring lean doner meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie, shaved to order, and served in GDK’s proprietary toasted waffle bread.

The sandwich is loaded with fresh vegetables and finished with homemade sauces — garlic, spicy, and yogurt — for what the brand calls an “unforgettable flavor.”

A global brand with local flavor

German Doner Kebab (GDK) first launched in Dubai with a fresh, modern approach to the traditional doner, blending Turkish street food roots with a German twist. The concept quickly grew into a global franchise, now boasting over 170 restaurants across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.

Headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, the company has expanded rapidly into North America, with U.S. locations in New York City, New Jersey and Texas. The Centereach restaurant is the latest addition — and the first step in Kirmani’s plan to expand GDK across Long Island, with potential Nassau County sites currently being explored, GLI learned.

GDK’s menu goes far beyond traditional kebabs. Guests can order rice bowls, crispy doner rolls, empanadas, and burgers, all featuring GDK’s signature marinated meats and sauces. For lighter fare, there’s the Gym Box — a protein-packed meal option — and vegetarian choices like the black bean Veggie Kebab and Veggie Burger.
