Friends of Huntington High School alum Ian Kirkpatrick and his newlywed bride Florida Hoxha want them remembered for how they lived. Not how they died.

A Huntington GoFundMe is raising money toward that goal.

Launded on Friday, the he fundraiser organized by Kristen Burke of Huntington had raised $4,490 of its $10,000 goal as of Wednesday afternoon.

“This loss has been deeply felt by everyone who knows and loves them,” Burke wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Donations will help ease the burden on both families as they grieve, according to the page. In time, the families also hope to create a lasting tribute where loved ones can gather and remember the couple. The form that memorial will take hasn’t been decided.

Kirkpatrick, 37, graduated from Huntington High School in 2007, according to his obituary. Hoxha, 34, was born in Albania, raised in the Bronx, and worked as a senior attorney at the New York Legal Assistance Group.

The couple married on Long Island on Aug. 30, Newsday reported. They were on the second leg of their honeymoon when an explosion leveled the two-story building in the Plaka district of Athens where they were staying on Sept. 25.

Also killed were Florida’s brother, Florin Hoxha, 36, and his partner, Eris Cani, 39. Cani was five months pregnant with the couple’s first child, the family told the Daily Mail.

Authorities in Athens said the blast was believed to have been caused by a major gas leak, the Associated Press reported.

A service for the two couples is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Church of St. Patrick, located 400 Main St. in Huntington. Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Yorktown Funeral Home in Shrub Oak, New York.

Burial will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
