Gov. Hochul: PGA, LPGA majors coming back to Bethpage Black

|

The PGA is coming back to the Black.

Long Islanders won’t have to wait too long to see the best golfers in the world tee off at the famed Farmingdale course again.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday that the PGA Championship will return to Bethpage Black in 2033. The tournament was last played there in 2019, when Brooks Koepka held off Dustin Johnson by two strokes to claim the Wanamaker Trophy.

And it won’t just be the men taking center stage. Also revealed Tuesday, the Women’s PGA Championship is set for Bethpage Black in 2028 — marking the highest-ranked course to ever host the women’s major.

“We are so proud to honor the legacy of the PGA, right here on Long Island,” said Gov. Hochul.

“It’s iconic. It’s the people’s country club,” added Derek Sprague, CEO of the PGA of America.

This news comes as Bethpage Black is preparing to host the Ryder Cup for the very first time, from Sept. 26–28, 2025. The biennial event pits Team USA against Team Europe in a match-play format that is one of golf’s most intense and electric competitions. Thousands of fans are expected to pack the Black to see if the Americans can defend home turf in what will be one of the most watched sporting events of the year.

Make sure to check back with Greater Long Island for live coverage of the Ryder Cup all week long.
