Greater LI beats January traffic record with 580,000 site views in February

|

Just when we thought greaterlongisland.com couldn’t get any busier.

Fueled by a surge in traffic from people voting for Long Island’s Best Bartender, the site was visited 402,000 times in February. Those GLI visitors were good for precisely 579,453 site views, according to internal data.

That blew away January’s all-time record of 555,000 views of greaterlongisland.com, published by Greater Long Island Media Group, Inc.

“What we’re seeing here is that Long Islanders are passionate about local news,” said publisher Michael White. “But they’re also passionate about alcohol and who makes the best drinks ever!”

Greater Long Island is on pace to do over 6.8 million page views this year, which would be another all-time best for the island’s fastest-growing news company.

The site topped 4.6 million views in 2022.

The company began in 2015 when White, a veteran newspaperman, launched greaterpatchogue.com, which covered downtown Patchogue, its surrounding hamlets and Bellport Village. From there, other downtowns requested Greater Patchogue’s style of news coverage.

The site later evolved into greaterlongisland.com, covering news island-wide after fully expanding into Nassau County last year.

Greater Long Island’s team of Long Island-bred reporters and photographers have worked in some of the biggest newsrooms in the world, including the New York Post, Daily News and ESPN.

“We’re just getting started with better engaging our communities, by not only telling people’s stories but getting readers involved in new, fun ways,” said editorial director Nick Esposito. “Also, be on the lookout later this spring for a ‘greater’ way for anyone to promote local events through the site.”

In the meantime, follow GLI on Instagram and Facebook.

More than 173,000 people voted in the company’s first Bartender Battle Long Island bracket.
