The candy aisles are stocked, scary movie marathons are on the way, and the Spirit Halloween stores are open. That can only mean one thing — spooky season has arrived. If you’re looking for festive fun that works for kids and adults alike, Long Island has plenty of options. Here’s a roundup of family-friendly haunts and happenings across Nassau and Suffolk this October.


Brightwaters Farms

Sept. – October

📍 Bay Shore

Brightwaters Farms has fired up its annual Fall Harvest Festival, which kicked off Monday, Sept. 22, at the 14-acre working farm. The gates will stay open to the public through October. This can’t-miss Long Island tradition delivers all the charms of the East End farms — without the traffic. And yes, there’s a real pumpkin patch, fall food and so much more.


Bizarre Bazaar

Sept. 27

📍 Cinema Arts Centre, Huntington

The DIY, punk-inspired Bizarre Bazaar is set to feature local creatives, artisans, collectors and small businesses. Expect coffee, brews, snacks (with vegan options) — and best of all, admission is free.

NYSF Spooky Happenings Faire

Oct. 26

📍 Pro Game Fields, Deer Park | Rain date: Nov. 2

Hosted by New York Solar Faire, this free market will be packed with oddities and curiosities, from crystals and tarot readings to spooky tchotchkes. A great pick for families who love browsing.


Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns

Oct. 3 – Nov. 1

📍 Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts, Wheatley Heights

Back for its 12th season, the Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns is the world’s longest jack-o’-lantern trail, with more than 10,000 illuminated creations. Expect everything from hand-carved pumpkins to specialty lanterns featuring characters like Black Panther and Harry Potter.


Halloween at the Farm

Oct. 25

📍 Suffolk County Farm & Education Center, Yaphank

This family event includes wagon rides, trick-or-treating stations, a corn maze, crafts, family games, and pumpkins for sale. Food trucks will also be on site.


Halloween Costume Parade

Oct. 11

📍 Starts at Veterans Park, Long Beach

The parade ends at the Recreation Center Campus on Magnolia Blvd. and includes awards for best costumes, trick-or-treat bags, and free skating passes at Long Beach Ice Arena. It’s part of the village’s annual Fall Festival.


Bayville Scream Park

September through November

📍 Bayville

Bayville Scream Park offers haunted houses, axe throwing, and a full bar for adults — plus daytime family fun with mini golf, arcade games, bumper boats, and treasure hunts. Haunted houses are recommended for ages 12 and up.


Halloween House Long Island

📍 Broadway Commons, Hicksville

Halloween House is an indoor, immersive walkthrough with themed rooms. It leans more fun than fear, making it ideal for families.


Children’s Halloween Party

Oct. 31

📍 New York Life, Melville

Face painting, raffles, prizes, pizza, candy and a costume contest headline this family event on Halloween night.


Spooky Woods

Oct. 24 – 26

📍 Smithtown Historical Society

Families can walk the haunted trail and pumpkin patch, with food vendors, crafts, live music and trick-or-treating on the 22-acre grounds. Kids under three are free.


Family Fun Day

Oct. 19

📍 Hyatt Place, Garden City

This fall-and-Halloween mash-up features dancing, crafts, pumpkin decorating, and character visits from Bluey and Mickey Mouse — a perfect pick for younger kids.


Spooky Fest

📍 Center for Science, Teaching and Learning, Rockville Centre

Spooky Fest includes fortune telling, glowing tents, face painting, music, and a spooky woods trail with zombies and dinosaurs. A “non-scary” ticket option features friendlier characters and crafts for the little ones.


Ghostly Gala

📍 Long Island Children’s Museum, Garden City

The museum’s Ghostly Gala includes the Monster Mash Dance Party, trick-or-treat bag decorating, and the return of Uncle Vlad’s Pumpkin Patch performance. Recommended for ages three and up.
