Police arrested a Hampton Bays man this weekend after he refused to remove himself from an emergency helicopter landing zone at an outdoor North Sea athletic complex, cops said.
Erik Acosta, 36, allegedly ignored multiple orders to vacate the area at the Southampton Youth Services fields on Majors Path about 5:41 p.m. and physically resisted officers. Authorities had responded to help an athlete who suffered a head injury during a game, which caused seizures.
Lt. Todd Spencer told Greater Long Island there appears to be “no known relationship between the victim and defendant, who appeared to be intoxicated.” The victim’s current condition is unknown, he said.
It’s unclear which sport the victim was playing when the injury occurred.
Acosta was taken into custody, transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters, and issued a desk appearance ticket to return to Southampton Town Justice Court. He faces a misdemeanor charge of second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.
