‘Happy Gilmore’ and ’The Godfather Part II’ playing this month at Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre

Whether you’re hungry for man-child comedy or man-up drama, the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington has you covered in January.

“Happy Gilmore” (1996) and “The Godfather Part II” (1974) are among an array of hit films the venue will screen this month. The Cinema will also host show “The Addams Family” (1991), “The Mummy” (1999) “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1990) and “Little Giants” (1994) among other classics.

“Happy Gilmore,” the 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler in the title role, will be screened Saturday, Jan. 14, at 10 p.m. The movie was a commercial success and to this day enjoys a huge cult following.

Gilmore is a high-strung hockey player who aspired to play in the NHL, only to discover he’s a natural at golf and joins the pro tour. The film earned an MTV Movie Award for “Best Fight” between Gilmore and gameshow host Bob Barker, who was playing himself.

“The Godfather Part II” will be shown on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. Part of the Cinema Arts Centre’s exploration of culturally significant classic films, the film serves as a prologue and a sequel to 1972’s “The Godfather.”

Winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor of DeNiro, the script was again co-authored by director Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo, the author of the popular novel about the American mafia.
