Head to Stony Brook on Oct. 29 for Suffolk’s largest pet costume parade

|

Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook is giving you a reason (as if you needed one) to drape your dog or cat in the costume of your choice.

On Sunday, Oct. 29, the hotel will be hosting what’s billed as the largest Halloween pet costume parade and contest in Suffolk County: Barkfest.

Starting at 12 p.m., the event will see hundreds of animals lined up in their festive, scary, or downright strange outfits.

From there they strut around the hotel like they own the place.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Facebook, it’s that pets love costumes and their owners love dressing them up,” said Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn, a Barkfest co-sponsor.

The most wowing pet costumes will earn prizes.

“This event not only ‘throws a bone’ to our four legged ghouls, goblins, hot dogs and doggie bags, but also the two-legged owners that enjoy the pageantry of the day just as much as their pets,” Hahn said.

The free event happens at 3131 Nesconset Highway and is also sponsored by Suffolk County SPCA and Save-A-Pet.

It will run for a couple of hours, according to the celebrations spokesperson.
