Heisman watch is on Sayville’s Jack Coan

|

With a monster game in Wisconsin’s Week Two blowout win over Central Michigan, Sayville’s Jack Coan is quickly becoming part of the Heisman Trophy conversation.

The junior quarterback threw three touchdown passes Saturday, while completing 26 of 33 passes for 363 yards in the Badgers 61-0 win at home in Madison, Wisconsin.

Coan‘s career day sent his passing efficiency rating soaring to 201.2, placing him among the best in the nation. He has now thrown for five touchdown passes and 564 yards with no interceptions for Wisconsin (2-0), ranked No. 17 in the country coming into the weekend.

Back in June, Sports Illustrated showed some love to Coan, a 2017 graduate of Sayville High School, when it included 6-foot-3 Badgers signal caller in a list of 117 Heisman candidates for 2019. Coan was part of a group headlined “First-year Starters Who Could Pop.”

Coan earned the starting quarterback nod during training camp in August, fending off stiff competition from two highly regarded freshmen.

There was plenty of buzz about Coan’s performance on the grid iron in Madison Saturday afternoon.

Next up for Coan and the Badgers is a Sept. 21 home contest against Big Ten rival Michigan.
