Heroic Suffolk cop saves man from sinking truck in Patchogue River

|

A man’s life was saved on Monday when a Suffolk County Police officer responded to a distress call in Patchogue.

The man had suffered a medical emergency and drove his pickup truck into the Patchogue River by Sunset Lane and River Avenue.

Officer Daniel Elitharp quickly arrived on the scene and saw the man slumped over in the vehicle.

Without hesitation, he dove into the water and rescued the victim, who only sustained minor injuries and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital for treatment.

And the fearless cop? He simply dried off and continued his shift, a true hero in every sense of the word.
